The first chapter that we learned about was Chapter 2 The Sea Floor. In this chapter we learned that the sea floor is geologically distinct from the continents. It is locked in a perpetual cycle of birth and destruction the shapes the ocean and controls much of the geology and geological history of the continents. In between studying this chapter we had to choose a career in this field. I chose to be a marine conservationist. We had to make our own website and present to the class what are jobs were and what type of education we had to get and stuff like that. Then we started a new chapter. Chapter 3 Chemical and Physical Features of Seawater and the World Ocean. In this chapter we discussed the chemistry and physics of the oceans in relation to life in the sea. This first quarter has been great and i think this will be a great year. #TROYBLUE

We started with learning the history of marine biology and the first scientists to specifically study the oceans. We learned about what type of equipment that marine biologists use to study the ocean floor. We studied different career fields under marine biology. We had to know the different layers of the earth and whether or not they were solid. We learned that diatoms weren't two atoms. Then we learned about the seafloor and what the parts of it are called. After that we learned about waves and tides. We learned what makes them. We learned the parts of a wave. I learned the two different tides, Spring and Neap. I learned the zones of the ocean and the different layers. I learned the different lifestyles of organisms in the ocean
#McKenna Baileigh- Vampire squid live in the tropical and temperate parts of the ocean. They live at depths of 1,800 to 3,500 feet. There is no light were they reside. They eat prawn. There body is covered in photophores, and their life span is unkonwn.
Billy- Frilled sharks have a head like lizard and a blunt-ended snout. Their mouth is huge and have multiple rows of three pronged sharp teeth. It lives in the depths of the loch ness and is considered equally rare and terrifying. Because human contact with this creature is rare, they are often considered a living fossil. Kelcie- Deep sea cucumbers protect themselves by secreting a bioluminescent across their surface and shed a sticky glowing skin. They only live for 5-10 years. Kyler- The Dumbo Octopus lives anywhere from 3000 to 4000 meters under the surface. Their diet is mainly of arthopods, isopods, and other crustateans. #mckenna Aquaculturist - Basically a fish farmer, they raise fish in underwater cages for the purpose of food. Most of the seafood we eat is raised by aquaculturist.
Shark Biologist - Spend most of work hours out on the water, collecrting research and observations on sharks. Dolphin Trainer - Expected to work year round and with not as much pay as you'd expect. Nautical Archeologist - Study shipwrekcs, use sonar technology to find out how and when the ships sunk. Marine Mammologist - Study the relationships between marine mammals and their environment/habitat and basically everything about them. Marine/Shark Biologist - Study Great White Shark migrational patterns, many come together at the "Great White Cafe" off the coast of California and Hawaii. Marine Vet - Work in aquariums or rescue teams to save or perfrom surgery on injured animals. Aquarist - Maintain aquariums everywhere, feed and monitor the fish, collect information. Whale Biologist - Studies whales and their The California Current - One of the five major coastal currents affiliated with upwelling zones, located (as the name suggests) off the coast of California.
The Kuroshio Current - A current very similair to the Gulf Stream, both being westward boundry currents. Located on the west side of the North Pacific Ocean. #FRA Website 1:

Scientific Name Mitsukurina owstoni What do Goblin Sharks eat? The Goblin Shark eats cephalpods, small fish, molluscus, and shrimp. What are some unique adaptations? The Goblin Shark is unique from other deep sea creatures. The coloration, snout, and tooth structure are some very interesting body features. Their bodies range from pinkish gray to bubblegum pink in color. What is the Goblin Sharks lifespan? The life span of a goblin shark has not yet been discovered but the average age is about 36 years FRILLED SHARK - Chlamydoselachus anguineus
What it eats - cephalopods, bony fishes, and smaller sharks Type - Shark Life Span - 25 years Unique Adaptations - Almost all of its fins/gills are at the back half of its body, the front half is much like an eel.
Red Octopus
Scientific name: Stauroteuthis syrtensis Habitat: Kelp forest Life span: 3-5 years Also known as the glowing sucker octopus, is a species of small pelagic octopus found at substantial depths in the north Atlantic Ocean on the US coast. It is one of a very small number of octopuses to exhibit bioluminescence in the deep atlantic. Octopus are carnivorous and they will eat anything that they can catch, particularly crustaceans. |
